Welcome!

If you’re the one who loves to learn, think and grow, then you are at the right place.

Discipline.Works is a newsletter for curious minds on cultivating a discipline that works for you, and not against you.

It’s about a commitment towards yourself that you aspire to be.

So, if you want to grow into the person you feel you could be, share your ideas and make a meaningful impact…

then this newsletter is for you.

Who am I?

My name is Antoon Wellens. During my years as a maître d’, I finished my psychology degree and changed course. For the past fifteen years I’ve been coaching and facilitating people in how to lead themselves.

Being a host is the throughline to everything I’ve done. Different work, different guests. Same host.

For a long time I left my own work standing at the door. I’ve spoken to rooms of hundreds of people. I couldn’t publish a single personal essay online. That’s what I wrote about first, and it’s why this newsletter exists. (see that first post here).

Why discipline?

The word has been taken over. We hear it and think of force: grit, pushing through, overriding yourself.

It didn’t start there. Discipline comes from the Latin for learning. A disciple is a student. The word was about what you’re turned toward, not what you’re fighting.

That’s the version I’m after and the journey I’d like to explore with you.

What you’ll find here

You can expect to find regular posting. Not advice from someone who has it all figured out. Ideas from my own search on how to live a life that’s actually good, and what discipline has to do with it.

Essays on the ideas and practice. Actionable ideas. Now and then a longer piece that goes deeper into the philosophy and psychology.

You’re invited.
